Elementary & Preteen

Students

Piano lessons gives students the ability and confidence to internalize rhythms, explore the emotional aspects of sound, and create music on their own.
Students as young as 5 years old are welcomed into Hannah's music studio.  To reinforce concepts, Hannah incorporates games, duet playing, singing, listening and composition exercises into piano lessons.  This encourages students to explore the many parts of music, and helps each student find the learning style that resonates.
When Should I Start Lessons?
First and foremost, make sure your little one enjoys music and is excited to take lessons.  Children will get the most value out when they explore activities they enjoy doing.  Encouraging them to dive into activities that are fun and resonate with their interests are crucial to learning during these formative years.

Playing the piano is a skill that can begin around the same time a child starts kindergarten.  However, each student is unique, so I encourage an introductory meeting to evaluate the type of lessons that makes the most sense.
What Will My Little One Learn?
Music education for the youngest learners goes beyond the written note.  As students learn about music they are encouraged to listen to the music, feel rhythms, experiment with composition, while learning to play and express themselves musically.

Learning to play the piano is similar to learning a language. Both have tone, rhythm, and cadence.  Starting early, if the student shows an interest is a great way to lay the groundwork.

Lessons reflect the child's age and maturity, and I expect students to practice and remain engaged during lessons.  However, a 5 year old is still a 5 year old.  So I keep lessons fun by keeping kids moving during lessons, playing games, singing, among other things.  After 30 minutes can feel like a a long time for a 5 year old who stays seated at the piano the whole time

A 30-minute weekly lesson is recommended.
